The company, owned by the Quignones family for centuries, cultivates thirty hectares of vineyards, different in altitude, soil characteristics, type of vine and training method, in the hills of Licata, a short distance from Agrigento, facing the Mediterranean Sea . The excellent southern exposure of the land, the proximity of the sea, the characteristics of the soil and the cultivation methods give the grapes grown here characteristics that are completely unique in the Sicilian panorama. The company only launched itself on the bottled wine market in 2000, immediately enjoying considerable success, especially with the Nero d'Avola vinified in purity, awarded in 2003 with the Grand Gold Medal at the World Competition in Brussels. Since then, great awards have been awarded to our wines in major international competitions such as the Berliner Wien Trophy and the Vinitaly competition, as well as various awards in national competitions. The latest in chronological order is the Gold Medal at the Berliner Wien Trophy Jung (July 2010) awarded to Insolia Quignones Sicilia PGI 2009.
The company offers five product lines:
• ANÈR, passito made from Nero d'Avola grapes
• TENUTA D'APAFORTE (aged in barriques) Nero d'Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
• QUIGNONES (aged in steel) Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Insolia and Chardonnay.
• CASTEL SAN GIACOMO (blend) Red and White,
• LARGASÌA (blend) Merlot-Syrah and Fiano.
The production of excellent red wines is accompanied by the production of great white wines from native grapes (insolia) and international vines such as Chardonnay. Many wines linked by a common thread: the passion for the Sicilian sun, the hard work from the vineyard to the cellar and the love for our land. This is why Quignones wines taste like Sicily!
