Vinitaly 2013, two thousand Sicilian labels

One hundred and seventy companies for two thousand labels in total. These are the first numbers of Sicilia del Vino at the 47th edition of Vinitaly. To demonstrate how this Fair continues to represent the most important international showcase of the wine world and how, even in a year of great difficulty for the national economy, the Sicilian offer is solid and motivated. This year the leitmotif will be “Born in Sicily”.

A new season for Sicilian wine. “Sicilian wineries – underlines Lucio Monte, head of the technical-scientific area of IRVOS – have come a long way. Sicilian wine is the concrete demonstration of how a development model is possible which, rejecting homologation, gives way to originality, attributable not only to the territories and company histories, but which embraces the concept of identity certified by Institute itself, as belonging and lifestyle. We cultivate diversity, we are the privileged corridor of Mediterranean flavours. In this journey, wine has earned the role of spokesperson for a brand that on international markets will represent the pride with which we say «I was born in Sicily»”. Vinitaly 2013 will also be the debut of DOC brand production for Sicily: there is already talk of ten thousand hectares and a potential of over seventy million bottles. A great debut that can be celebrated as the starting point from which to look to the future with optimism.

Not just wine, this year too, after the debut in 2012, IRVOS will be involved in the international exhibition of quality extra virgin olive oil (SOL and Agrifood) which in conjunction with Vinitaly brings the best of oil production to Veronafiere Italian. In addition to being an essential component of the Mediterranean diet, the quality expressed by Sicilian extra virgin olive oil is very high, the result of intense work to enhance an exceptional product. After the recognition of the Sicilian Doc for wine, the marathon aimed at recognizing a quality and territorial brand Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Sicily PGI has begun.
