Irvos new services

New services for virological analyzes of vine plants. From now on, with minimal costs, for just ten euros, it will be possible to have leaves and shoots analyzed at the IRVOS laboratory in Canicattì. However, the analysis services are extended to the entire region. In fact, it will be enough to send the samples to one of the various offices of the Regional Institute of Sicilian Wines and Oils located throughout the area.

That is Palermo, Marsala, Ispica, Milazzo, Noto, Castiglione di Sicilia. IRVOS officials will be responsible for sending the samples to the Canicattì laboratory. The decision to set up a laboratory dedicated to this particular type of virological analysis was desired by the then general director of the institution, now regional councilor for Agriculture, Dario Cartabellotta. Many Italian grape vineyards had in fact been planted in that period in the country and there had been numerous cases of virus disease. Now the specialized laboratory will be made available to the entire Sicilian wine-growing area, responding to the philosophy carried out by the sector support body.

“There is complete willingness – begins the IRVOS commissioner, Giorgio Calabrese – on the part of the body to safeguard wine production above all by trying to accommodate small businesses, of which there are many, and which are truly in need. In this way, IRVOS gives the possibility of using analysis services of a certain level at competitive costs. All this is possible thanks to the great professionalism of Gianni Giardina and the other officials who are part of the staff and who have committed themselves to making all this possible from today. IRVOS once again demonstrates not only that it is intelligent but also that it knows how to safeguard the wine product".

In addition to virological analyzes on vine leaves and shoots, nematological research on soils is also available.
