DOC certifications, over a thousand from January to today
Almost 300 thousand hectoliters: this is the number relating to the quantities of DOC certified Sicilian wine. One thousand and 109 certifications have been issued from January 1st to today.
The data comes directly from the offices of the Regional Institute of Wines and Oils of Sicily which, in the middle of August, continues to monitor the certification situation and carry out commissions for recognition. “Our work doesn't stop. – comments the director of the institution, Vincenzo Cusumano – There are many requests, and it is certainly a success if we compare it to 2012 when the certified hectoliters were just under 130 thousand. All this is made possible thanks to the great professionalism of the operators involved."
The highest numbers are confirmed to be those linked to the Etna DOC: 209 certificates this year, as was the case in 2015, 270 last year. Followed by the DOC Marsala, Pantelleria and Cerasuolo di Vittoria. For the DOC Sicilia it is another success: from 26 certificates in 2012 it has reached 588 this year. And to conclude with some other numbers, 66 tasting sessions have been carried out since January, specifically: 17 by the tasting commission for the DOC wines of eastern Sicily, 16 by the tasting commission 1 for the DOC wines of Sicily, 17 by the 2 tasting commission for DOC Sicilian wines and 16 from the tasting commission for DOC wines from western Sicily.
