IRVO at the G7 in Syracuse with Dessert Wines: the event curated by the oenologist Gianni Giardina
On September 24th, within the framework of the G7 in Syracuse, an event dedicated to Dessert Wines of Sicily, curated by the oenologist Gianni Giardina of IRVO (Regional Institute of Wine and Oil). An opportunity that allowed us to explore the connections between the intense and unmistakable flavors of Sicilian wines and the taste notes of the typical sweets of the Island, enhancing the traditions and peculiarities of a territory rich in history and culture.
During the event, Giardina illustrated the exceptional variety of Sicilian dessert wines, highlighting how these products represent not only an oenological treasure, but also a symbol of the identity and quality of the territory. IRVO underlined the richness of these wines, from Malvasia delle Eolie to Passito di Pantelleria, passing through the Muscats of Syracuse and Noto and the recent Nero d'Avola passito, all examples of how Sicily knows how to amaze the most demanding palates with products of excellence.
“All Sicilian dessert wines share a distinctive element: the terroir, which gives them uniqueness and unites them for the explosion of olfactory, gustatory and visual sensations” – commented Gianni Giardina – “Participating in international competitions, I can recognize a Sicilian wine even when it is served anonymously, thanks to its intense color, a yellow that only the Sicilian sun can confer. Furthermore, the great olfactory explosion, in which the flowers and fruits are distinctly perceived, makes these wines unique and easily recognizable for their unmistakable taste.”
