IRVO supports women in the olive oil supply chain: the Women's Olive Oil Days in Sciacca were a success.
From Friday 3rd October to Sunday 5th October, the prestigious international exhibition of “Women's Oil Days”. The review in question, promoted by the national association City of Oil in collaboration
With the municipality of Sciacca, she addressed the topic of the influence of women in the olive growing and oil sector, transforming it into an opportunity for discussion between female entrepreneurs and industry leaders.
Among those who supported the initiative was also the extraordinary commissioner of IRVO Giusi Mistretta – who spoke about crucial issues in Sicilian olive growing and the role of women in this sector.
On this topic, Mistretta explained: "The role of women in this sector can truly make a difference. Women, with their sensitivity and long-standing roots in the local area, are also custodians of ancient knowledge and stories. This allows them to contribute to a strategic vision of companies geared towards greater sustainability, relationships, and care."
With this in mind, IRVO participated in the excursion organized by Città dell'Olio on Saturday, October 4th, to an olive oil mill run exclusively by women from generation to generation. The event proved worthy of repeat participation, according to Mistretta, who stated: "IRVO must support these initiatives in both the wine and olive oil supply chains. Sicilian companies need to make themselves known around the world, and it is especially necessary to support olive oil companies in building a network, because only by networking can effective internationalization be fostered."
September was also a productive month for the Institute: it participated in the 45th edition of the viticulture event in Milo and the 23rd edition of EnoEtna in Santa Venerina, as well as organizing the fortified wines session of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Catania. As Mistretta emphasized, events like these were
fundamental for "the diffusion of an idea of resilience necessary for new companies and for the rebirth of the sector".
