Conference on "High-Quality Sicilian Sparkling Wines with a Strong Territorial Character"

The Regional Institute of Wine and Oil (IRVO), in collaboration with CREA-VE – Viticulture and Oenology Research Centre, is organizing a technical-scientific conference entitled “High-quality Sicilian sparkling wines with a strong territorial character”, scheduled for Monday, July 14, 2025, at 4:00 pm, at the Madison Restaurant in Realmonte (AG).

The event is part of the “Sicilia in Bolle” event and will be moderated by Roberto Gueli, national deputy director of TGR Rai.

The conference's aim is to explore issues related to Sicilian sparkling wine production, with particular emphasis on qualitative, historical, cultural, and territorial innovation aspects. The results of the conference will be presented during the meeting. IRVO Sparkling Wine Project – CREA (SAQIRVO), the result of a strategic collaboration to enhance native grape varieties and innovative sparkling wine making techniques.

Speakers include representatives of scientific and academic institutions, wine industry experts, and members of the AIS – Italian Sommelier Association.

Finally, there will be a guided tasting of 6 experimental sparkling wines. obtained from Nero d'Avola, Grillo and Zibibbo grapes, vinified at the IRVO Experimental Winery in collaboration with CREA, under the care of Antonio Sparacio and the oenologist Salvatore Sparla.

The Regional Institute of Wine and Oil is present at Sicilia in Bolle to support initiatives like this, which aim to enhance, promote, and raise awareness of Sicilian wine production worldwide. This is a broad-based mission, which chronicles not only the evolution of production but also the historical and cultural transitions that make our winemaking tradition unique.
