The enological future of Sicily at the 78th National Congress of Assoenologi – Dr. Daniele Oliva speaks to the audience
It took place from 26th to 29th June the 78th National Congress of Assoenologi, hosted in the scenic Teatro Pirandello in Agrigento and continued in the unique setting of the Valley of the Temples. Among the protagonists of the day of June 28, also the Dr. Daniele Oliva – director of IRVO – who took part in the plenary session, telling the audience about years and years of research with the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil.
In his speech, Oliva recalled that until 1954 modern studies on native yeasts were lacking, drawing attention to Sicily's enormous microbial biodiversity and its still untapped potential.
He then stressed the importance of supporting a new generation of researchers: young people trained abroad who choose to return to Sicily and have demonstrated wide availability to collaborate with oenologists, to jointly face the challenges related to research and production of non-alcohol wines And low alcohol – innovative products capable of responding to new market needs, without sacrificing quality and territoriality.
The three days were the perfect example of how tradition and science can cooperate to give new life to Italian wine, offering value, employment and sustainability.
