IRVO among the protagonists of the 25th edition of Enoforum – The Institute present in Verona with studies on sustainability and varietal innovation

From 21 to 23 May 2025, Verona hosted, for the first time at the Veronafiere headquarters, the 25th anniversary edition of Enoforum, the most important European technical-scientific congress dedicated to the wine and oenological sector.

The event, which has grown in importance and participation over the years, brings together producers, oenologists, agronomists, researchers and companies in the sector every two years, offering a unique opportunity to update on innovations, build professional networks and attend presentations by national and international experts.

IRVO – Regional Institute of Wine and Oil takes part in the event by presenting two scientific communications developed within the research conducted in the experimental vineyards and in the microvinification cellar of the institution.

The first study concerns "the experimentation of agronomic techniques on native Sicilian varieties to mitigate the effects of climate change", with particular reference to the phenomenon of global warming.

The second work illustrates the Institute's activities in the field of "recovery, conservation and valorization of old Sicilian vine varieties, in response to climate change" and safeguarding of regional viticultural biodiversity.

Among the new features of the 2025 edition, The congress was preceded for the first time by the international symposium “GreenWINE, Science for Sustainable Production”, organized in collaboration with the University of Verona, which brought to Italy the most advanced public research aimed at responding to the fundamental challenges of sustainability in wine production.

In this context, Doctor Laura Girolli and Doctor Riccardo Savastano presented a research by IRVO entitled: “the study on the yeast strain KmL2009”, a project developed since 2009.

The yeast Kluyveromyces marxianus KmL2009 allows you to modulate the qualitative parameters of white wines, improving its aromatic complexity, and represents a concrete result of IRVO's commitment to sustainable wine innovation.
