Sicilian winemaker Gianni Giardina awarded with the Cangrande Medal at Vinitaly

At Vinitaly 2025 Gianni Giardina wins the “Angelo Betti – Benemerito della Vitivinicoltura Italiana 2025” award for his commitment as a promoter of Sicilian wine culture

A new prestigious recognition
The “Angelo Betti Award – Benemerito della Vitivinicoltura Italiana 2025 with the Cangrande Medal” was awarded to the winemaker Gianni Giardina which adds an important new chapter to its already brilliant and long professional career.
A management and inspection official at the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil of Sicily, Giardina represents a prominent figure in the Italian wine scene, having dedicated his life to knowledge and to disclosure from the Sicilian wine culture.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday 6 April 2025 at the Auditorium Verdi of Verona Fiere. The award was presented by the general director of Verona Fiere, Adolfo Rebughini and the general director of the Department of Agriculture of the Sicilian Region, Fulvio Bellomo.
The Angelo Betti Award: 52 Years of Excellence
Now in its 52nd edition, the Angelo Bett AwardIt is awarded to personalities who have contributed significantly to the promotion and to enhancement from the wine culture in his own region. The award to Giardina was made at the suggestion of the Regional Councillor for Agriculture, a testament to the importance of his work.

A career dedicated to wine

Around the world, my goal has always been the same: to promote the culture of Sicily, also as producer of excellent wine, thanks to the commitment of the producers and the unique climatic conditions of our island.

With these words, Gianni Giardina comments at Vinitaly on the recognition received and which is part of a curriculum already rich in awards and honorable mentions, including, most recently in 2023: appointment as Italian correspondent of the prestigious Academy of Vine and Wine of Florence and “Paladin of Sicilian Wines” and career award from the National Organization of Wine Tasters (ONAV).

Throughout his career, Giardina has managed to conquer a prominent place in the Italian wine scene, covering roles Of great responsibility at a national level.
His experience was recognized and valued with the appointment as a member of the National Committee for the Promotion and Protection of DO Wines, where she was able to put her deep knowledge of the sector to good use. At the same time, her competence led him to become part of the Appeal Commission for DOP Wines at the Ministry of Agricultural Policies, a body of fundamental importance for guaranteeing the quality of Italian wines.

The Angelo Betti 2025 award therefore represents a career recognition by Gianni Giardina and, also, a tribute to his tireless work to promote the wine treasures of Sicily, a region which, thanks also to his contribution, has gained a leading place in the national and international wine scene.
