“Minor native vines and more – a journey into the oenological biodiversity of Sicily”.
Experimental wine tasting in Catania on 27 June 2018
The Regional Institute of Wine and Oil (IRVO) and the Sicily section of the Italian Sommelier Association organized a tasting of experimental wines in Catania entitled "Minor native vines and more - a journey into the oenological biodiversity of Sicily".
Nine wines for tasting, including whites and reds, are the result of an experiment developed by IRVO at the "Sicilian viticultural germplasm bank" in the Feudo di Verbumcaudo, land confiscated from the mafia, and in the other experimental vineyards of IRVO aimed at valorising the minor vines also recovered with specific projects of the Agriculture Department. A tasting that highlighted Sicily's great biodiversity heritage, a basic tool to also address the challenges induced by climate change, with an eye to the wines of the future.
