The wines of the smaller islands are discussed at Radici del Sud

The importance of viticulture in the small Sicilian islands. It was the central theme that IRVO highlighted during the conference "Sicily of Southern Roots, the environment, the climate and the vineyard".

Meeting which took place on 13 May at Palazzo Notarbartolo, in Palermo. The conference is part of the “Waiting for Radici del Sud” event, the Sicilian preview of the 11th Salon of Southern Wines “Radici del Sud”. Event to be held in Bari from 7 to 13 June 2016.

Antonio Sparacio, director of the technical-scientific area of the Regional Institute of Wine and Oil, spoke about viticulture in the smaller islands of Sicily. Together with him, the journalist Maurizio Gily, Rosario Di Lorenzo from the University of Palermo and Salvatore D'Agostino, former IRVO official. The moderator was Francesca Tamburello of the AIS of Palermo.

“The viticulture of the small islands of Sicily, although representing approximately 1% of the regional viticultural potential, – explains Sparacio – generates particularly valuable wines that are highly appreciated and known on the international scene”. Starting from the Aeolian Islands, passing through Ustica, the Egadi, Mozia, Pantelleria and the Pelagie, Sparacio thus highlighted their importance by focusing on the characteristics of the environments, climate and soil, of the vineyards and cultivated vines.

At the end of the conference, the wines of the 22 Sicilian wineries that will represent Sicily at Radici del Sud were tasted.
