Extra virgin olive oils, the Morgantìnon competition is underway

On Friday 22 May, at the headquarters of the Regional Museum of Aidone which will be the setting for the event, the ranking of Sicilian extra virgin olive oils of the sixth edition of the Morgantìnon regional competition will be made official. The “Morgantìnon” Regional Competition for Sicilian extra virgin olive oils is organized by the ESA Agricultural Development Agency in collaboration with the former Regional Province of Enna, the Chamber of Commerce of Enna, the Municipality of Aidone, the Department of agriculture, rural development of Mediterranean fishing and the Regional Museum of Aidone.

Furthermore, the “Federico II” State Institute of Enna Services for food and wine and hotel hospitality provides an important collaboration.

The day, very rich in events, will begin with the introduction by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the Agricultural Development Agency Hon. Francesco Concetto Calanna and with some communications regarding the theme of the day "Extra virgin olive oil PGI Sicily: tools and perspectives ”. These communications will be by Maurizio Cimino, general director of ESA, Maurizio Lunetta, President of the Promoting Committee of PGI Sicily oil and Lucio Monte, general director of the Regional Institute of Sicilian Wines and Oils. It will be a moment of discussion and knowledge regarding the great opportunity that opens up for Sicilian olive growing with the recognition of the Protected Geographical Identification for Sicilian oil. This will be followed by the presentation by Andrea Scoto, from the former regional province of Enna, of the Zagaria oil, i.e. the oil obtained from approximately 400 varieties present in the international olive germplasm conservation field located in Pergusa (En). Finally, there will be a drawing for the lucky winner of 30 liters of the best Sicilian oil linked to the survey In a drop of oil, a Mare Nostrum of culture and well-being and the awards ceremony with the delivery of prizes to the companies in the Sicilian oil supply chain that they were successfully classified in the Morgantinon 2015 competition.
